# Test Ingestion

> Upload one file and see how it would be classified and read before you add a data source

Test Ingestion lets you upload one file and see how it would be classified and read before you add a data source. Where: Model & Define > Artifact Types, the Test Ingestion button at the top right of the list, next to Add Artifact Type.

* **Modes:** classify and extract, only classify, or only extract (for one artifact type).
* **Nothing is ingested:** a test writes nothing to the knowledge graph, so you can drop in a sample file, or try a document through ingestion as many times as you like, before anything is ingested.
* **Large files and scans wait:** by default a file over 1 MB (a picture apart), any spreadsheet and a scanned PDF are read by the background parser, so the test can wait a few minutes.
* **Who can use it:** everyone who can open the list sees the button, but running a test needs write access to Graph Managers.
